THE VIRTUE OF CHARITY

“Charity is the pure love of Christ.”Moroni 7:47

Charity is more than giving—it is loving. It is the highest form of love, the kind that is patient, selfless, and unconditional. Charity doesn’t wait to be asked. It doesn’t count the cost. It simply sees a need and responds with kindness, compassion, and grace.

True charity flows from the heart. It is not just about helping the poor or donating to a cause—though these are noble acts—but about choosing to love people as they are. To forgive, to bless, to show mercy. To lift someone who cannot repay you. To choose empathy over judgment.

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”— 1 Corinthians 13:13

In older texts, “charity” and “love” are used interchangeably. That’s because real charity is love in action—it shows up in the way we treat others, especially those who are hard to love. Charity covers wounds. It softens hearts. It brings healing where there was once pain.

“If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.”
1 Corinthians 13:3

Charity is not boastful. It does not demand recognition. It gives freely, even when no one sees. And in giving, it receives—because every act of true charity draws us closer to the heart of God.

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”
1 Peter 4:8

We live out charity in small, quiet ways: a listening ear, a kind word, a gentle reply. In holding back anger. In choosing to see the good. In giving without expecting anything in return.

Let your life be a reflection of divine love—a love that embraces, includes, and restores.
